Purple Day is an international grassroots effort dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy worldwide. We are involved every year with amazing contests, fundraising for our local epilepsy chapter, and most importantly, spreading awareness!
WHAT IS EPILEPSY?
A neurological disorder marked by sudden recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance, loss of consciousness, or convulsions, associated with abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
300,000 Canadians (1% of the population) are affected by epilepsy
In one year, an average of 14,000 people learn that they have epilepsy
The occurance of epilepsy in persons over the age of 65 is approximately 1 in 14
Cheer for a Cause Supports Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness
In 2011, Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness joined forces with Cheer for a Cause to promote awareness of epilepsy to cheerleading teams around the world. Purple Day Founder Cassidy Megan is an avid cheerleader and loved getting the opportunity to bring two of her greatest passions together.
